High School Playbook

LOOMIS, CA - For the varsity boys swim team at Del Oro, it was their best chance they've had in trying to beat the seemingly unconquerable Granite Bay.  Unfortunately for them, the meet would be just another loss.  Granite Bay beat Del Oro by 20 points, and was the far more consistent team.

The Golden Eagles seemed to win more races, especially the relays, but the Grizzlies repeatedly took at least 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes even 4th place.  This meet was just the first this season for both teams.  The two will more than likely face eachother again during league championships.

FRESNO, CA - With spring sports just underway, preseason games are being played and preparations for league are beginnning.? Numerous tennis teams traveled to Fresno to compete in the annual California High School Boys Tennis Classic.? Everyone wants to do well but many see it as a way to get some good experience and stiff competition before league play.

League play for many starts this week and teams will look to capitalize on their trip to Fresno.

 Franklin High School's Fusion Dance Company is preparing for their big show titled "project 7" this weekend. The jazz dance classes at Franklin make students aspire to be in the Fusion Dance Company. Dancing all styles from contemparary to Hip-hop, fusion is known for always putting on an amazing show.

 "Pop!" Thats not just the seal of a fresh Dr. Pepper, but the overall style of Casa Roble Senior Josh Means. The black vans, wind breaker sweats, and Nike Football sweatshirt expresses a casual trend brought to the campus of Casa Roble known as Josh Means. "I like his style... he's a very motivated young man", said Alex Jungsten, a senior at Casa Roble.

 Means laid back lifestlye catches the eyes of many. he explained why Josh Means is off the charts. "On a scale of 1 to 10 I'm a 23, like these 23 flavors of Dr. Pepper", said Means.

 Thursday nights battle between Casa Roble and Del Campo was even throughout the duration of the game. Both teams traded baskets through the fourth quarter.

 With both team's tied up at 49, Del Campo's Jaron Wilson missed his shot, and the cougars coughed it up to the Rams with 14 seconds left in the game. With the ball in Casa's hands, Del Campo put on a series of fouls to keep the Rams from shooting. With .3 seconds left, Philip Peterson had no choice but to catch and shoot to get the shot off.

 In overtime, Del Campo took over with shots in the paint, and just inside three point land. The Cougars defeated the Rams 62-51.

After losing the Division 2 State Championship game, the Rocklin football players coaches, and fans were sad but still proud of what they had accomplished.

 Franklin Boy's Basketball had their senior night. With their season coming to an end, franklin holds a record of 23 and 3. Only losing one game, the Cats are officially leauge champs. They celebrated their senior night by playing Laguna Creek High School, and winning 68 to 60. Great job Cats!

Grant Pacers looks to keep their perfect home record hosting the McClatchy Lions Wednesday night.

LOOMIS, CA - Woodcreek head coach Burnel Pinkerton knew that with an 18-point advantage at halftime, the game was far from over.  Fortunately for him, Del Oro's efforts to complete a comback were stopped short as the Timberwolves defeated the Golden Eagles 63-55. 

"We knew at some point they were going to come back, they're too good of team and have too much time not to," said Pinkerton.  Del Oro's lack of ability to make shots and Woodcreek's great ball movement, allowed the Timberwolves to lead 32-18 at the intermission.

Del Oro came out in the second half acting like the first never happened.  Senior Spencer Butterfield and junior Aaron Hendricks led the Golden Eagles back into the game.  Butterfield scored 11 of his 21 points and 15 of Hendricks 18 came in the final quarters.

With just over two minutes remaining, Del Oro narrowed the lead to just two.  But Woodcreek came right back with a layup and Del Oro went cold.  The Golden Eagles were forced to start fouling and the Timberwolves made their free throws

Timberwolve seven-foot center finished with a game high 23 points and was the primary reason Woodcreek was able to get a big lead early on.  Kurtz constantly attack the basket and Del Oro had trouble stoppping him.  Nik Milani added 21 for Woodcreek; he and Kurtz each had 11 rebounds.

Woodcreek is know 2-0 in league play and hosts Oakmont next Thursday and Del Oro, now 0-1 in league, travels to Oakmont Tuesday.
